A dental bridge is used to replace one or more missing teeth, by literally bridging the gap left by the missing tooth or teeth. It is created by placing a false tooth or teeth in the space, and placing and cementing crowns onto the natural teeth or implants on either side of space. Bridges not only help to restore the ability to chew, but they prevent the remaining teeth from shifting out of position.
Bridges can last a long time, providing that the supporting teeth and gums stay healthy. The support of the bridge can be lost if the tooth or bone holding it in place is damaged by dental disease. Practicing good oral hygiene by brushing your teeth twice a day, flossing daily, and visiting your dentist for regular checkups is recommended.
